Province Creating New Department of Emergency Management & Nova Scotia Guard

The province is creating a new Department of Emergency Management.

It says the new department will oversee a new volunteer corps called the Nova Scotia Guard.

The Nova Scotia Guard will be a group of volunteers from across the province who will help communities during and after emergencies.

People can volunteer for the Nova Scotia Guard by contacting 211.

John Lohr will head the new Department that will lead the province’s co-ordinated emergency and disaster preparedness, response and recovery initiatives.
