Manslaughter Accused Makes Court Appearance

A Sydney man facing a charge of manslaughter made a court appearance today.

49-year-old Jason Owen Caines was arrested early Saturday morning after Regional Police say they responded to a report of an unconscious man near the intersection of Duke and State Street in Sydney shortly before midnight on Friday.

Police say officers found an unresponsive 51-year-old man suffering from a serious injury.

They say he was treated there and then taken to the Regional Hospital where he later died.

Police say both men know each other and the case is being called an isolated incident.

Caines’ bail hearing was adjourned today and the case is now due back in court for a bail hearing tomorrow.
