Manslaughter Accused Released On Conditions

A Sydney man facing a charge of manslaughter was released on conditions today.

49-year-old Jason Owen Caines was released on a promise to pay $10,000 himself, with another $10,000 from a surety on his behalf.

Other conditions include staying at a home in Sydney River and a curfew from six in the evening to six in the morning, unless he’s with his surety.

Caines was arrested early Saturday morning after Regional Police say an unconscious man was found near the intersection of Duke and State streets in Sydney on Friday night.

The 51-year-old man later died in hospital.

It’s believed the pair, who knew each other, had an argument and Caines is accused of pushing the 51 year-old, who fell to the ground and hit his head.

Caines is now due back in court for a plea hearing on May 27th.
