The Regional Hospital in Sydney is among six sites across the province that will be used to treat people in long-term care homes who test positive for COVID-19.
The province says the Regional Care Units will reduce and manage the spread of the virus.
It’s budgeted up to 6.2 million dollars to support the units that will be set up within hospitals or nursing homes.
The five other units will be in Antigonish, Truro, Dartmouth, Kentville and Yarmouth.
The units are being set up after a deadly outbreak of COVID-19 at Halifax’s Northwood Home during the first wave of the pandemic.
Most of the province’s COVID-19 deaths were people from the home.
