Planner Defends RV Park Recommendation

A municipal planner is defending her decision on a proposed RV park and campground in Big Pond.

Karen Neville says she followed the municipality’s planning strategy in recommending a rezoning to allow the project.

The comments came yesterday in testimony before the Utility and Review Board.

It’s considering an appeal by a group of Big Pond residents who say the rezoning went against the planning strategy.

Neville says the strategy requires the municipality to take such things as noise, traffic and visual concerns into account, but it doesn’t require proposals to be rejected automatically on those grounds.

The hearing is going into its third and final day today at the Holiday Inn in Sydney.
