People Encouraged To Keep An Eye On Seal In East Bay Area

The Marine Animal Response Society says it’s not able to rescue a seal seen at the East Bay Sandbar at this time.

Pictures posted online show some netting entangled around the young animal’s neck.

Andrew Reid is one of the senior responders with the society.

He says the seal would likely go off the ice and back into the water if a rescue were attempted now.

Reid says they’ll have to wait to attempt a rescue when the animal is on dry land.

The society says its volunteers in Cape Breton are keeping an eye on the seal and the group continues to encourage people in the area to report updates on the animal.

The society’s toll free number is 1-866-567-6277.
