New Deputy Mayor To Be Elected
The Regional Municipality will get a new deputy mayor when council meets at City Hall in Sydney at 1:30 this afternoon.
And that person could find themselves serving as mayor on a temporary basis.
If Mayor Cecil Clarke wins the provincial Progressive Conservative leadership later this month, the deputy mayor becomes mayor if Clarke steps down.
That person will serve as mayor until a special election for mayor is held.
Councillors can’t be deputy mayor for more than two consecutive years.
And Councillor Eldon MacDonald has served as deputy mayor for the past two years.
