NDP Says Number Of Newborns Referred To Unattached Newborn Clinics On Rise

The provincial NDP says data from a Freedom of Information request shows the number of newborns referred to Unattached Newborn Clinics is on the rise.

The clinics care for babies who don’t have a family doctor or primary care provider.

The NDP says 941 of the 5,922 babies born in 2023 were referred to Unattached Newborn Clinics.

It says the number of referrals to the clinics has steadily increased each quarter since they were launched in December of 2022.

The party says expanding the midwifery program across Nova Scotia would help to address the problem.
