Meeting To Discuss Concerns About Compost Site In Lingan

There’s going to be a public meeting tonight to discuss concerns about the dumping of compost material at the old Phalen colliery site in Lingan.   The material comes from the Cape Breton Regional Municipality and is being handled by private company Bio Energy.   Meeting organizer Cam MacDougall says people in the area are worried about what affect the material could have on their well water.   He adds there’s a noticeable smell from the site and reports of an increase in rats in the area.   MacDougall expects representatives from the provincial Department of Environment, the CBRM and Bio Energy will be on hand for tonight’s meeting, as well as area councilor Lowell Cormier.   The meeting gets underway at 7:00 at the Lingan Community Heritage Centre.
