Former Premier Gerald Regan Dies

Premier Stephen McNeil is sending his condolences to the family of Gerald Regan.

The former Nova Scotia Premier and MP died yesterday at the age of 91.

Regan served as Premier from 1970 to 1978.

He was first elected as an MP in 1963 and later returned to the House of Commons in 1980.

He served as Minister of Labour and Minister of State for International Trade in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau.

In 1998 Regan went to trial on eight charges including rape, attempted rape and forcible confinement against girls who were between 14 and 18 at the time.

In the end, all eight charges were dismissed.
