Five Suspects Arraigned In Barrett Stabbing
Five men appeared in court in Halifax today in connection to the stabbing of a murder suspect from Glace Bay. 39 year-old Thomas Ted Barrett was reportedly stabbed over 40 times at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Dartmouth on June 21st. He’s facing a host of criminal charges, including second degree-murder in the deaths of Laura Jessome and Brett MacKinnon, and attempted murder in the case of a third, unidentified woman. One of the five accused in the stabbing is 19 year-old Kevin Thomas Forrest of Sydney Mines. Also charged is 24 year-old Justin Joseph Thomas Cole, of Dartmouth. The three other suspects, all from Halifax, are 18 year-old Lateef Reakwon Tag-El-Din, 27 year-old Andreko Jamal Crawley, and 21 year-old Daniel Angus Ryan. All five men are facing charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Tag-El-Din is scheduled to have a bail hearing on Friday. The other four have consented to remain in custody until their next court appearance, which has been scheduled for August 12th.
