Dr. Kevin Orrell Will Be Senior Medical Director For Province’s Healthcare Redevelopment Plan In CBRM
Cape Breton orthopaedic surgeon Kevin Orrell will serve as the senior medical director for the province’s healthcare redevelopment project in the Regional Municipality.
The provincial Health Authority made the announcement this morning.
The McNeil government plans to close the hospitals in North Sydney and New Waterford and replace them with community health centres that don’t have emergency departments.
The plan also includes an expansion of emergency departments in Sydney and Glace Bay.
The Health Authority says Orrell will work with family doctors and specialists, Health Authority staff and the local community in his role.
Orrell says he looks forward to providing a critical physician viewpoint to the work.
Orrell was born and raised on the Northside and has been practicing orthopaedics in Cape Breton for 28 years.
