Downtown Sydney fire station to move

The downtown Sydney fire station has a new home when the NSCC Marconi Campus moves to the waterfront in 2024.

Municipal council has picked a parking lot on the corner of George and Pitt Streets as the new site of Station 1.

Mayor Cecil Clarke says council is working with the province to determine the cost to replace the current station on the Esplanade.

The new site is owned by the municipality and is currently being used as paid parking by the Sydney Downtown Development Association.

Clarke says the existing Station 1 will stay open until a new facility is built.
