Doncaster Elected Deputy Mayor

District 7 Councillor Ivan Doncaster has been elected Deputy Mayor of the Regional Municipality and he could soon find himself serving as mayor on a temporary basis.

Doncaster was nominated by District 12 Councillor Jim MacLeod, while District 8 Councillor Amanda McDougall was nominated by District 11 Councillor Kendra Coombes.

If Mayor Cecil Clarke wins the provincial Progressive Conservative leadership later this month, Doncaster will become mayor if Clarke steps down.

He’ll stay on as mayor until a special election is held.

The Deputy Mayor’s position had been held by Councillor Eldon MacDonald, who couldn’t re-offer because he’d served two consecutive terms.
