Regional Council debated a proposed medical clinic in a Sydney residential neighbourhood at last night’s meeting.
Dr. Margaret Fraser bought a property at 46 Cottage Road earlier this year in the hopes of turning it into a clinic.
But the area is designated a residential heritage dwelling zone and the municipality’s planners say medical clinics haven’t been allowed to operate in those zones since the early 2000’s.
718 of 809 people who responded to a public participation survey on the proposed clinic are in favour of the idea.
However, some councillors expressed concern about allowing commercial businesses to operate in residential areas.
In the end, Council voted to have Fraser submit a floor plan and site plan along with a description of the development proposal to be used in amending the current bylaw.
