Coombes Wins Cape Breton Centre By-Election

Regional Councillor Kendra Coombes is the new NDP MLA for Cape Breton Centre.

Coombes got 2,731 votes in unofficial results in yesterday’s by-election.

She beat second place Liberal candidate Dave Wilton by 740 votes.

Progressive Conservative Louie Pioveson came in third with 1,567 votes.

The Greens’ Adrianna MacKinnon picked up 76 votes.

Voter turnout was 51.6 per cent.

Meanwhile, Progressive Conservative David Ritcey won yesterday’s other by-election in Truro-Bible Hill-Millbrook-Salmon River.
