Conciliation Talks For CBU Support Staff
A conciliator is meeting with the union for support staff at Cape Breton University and CBU administration today.
The move comes after members of CUPE Local 3131 voted 96 per cent in favour of a strike, late last month and the union applied for a conciliator.
The approximately 65 union members have been without a contract since March 31st of 2016.
Local President Darren MacKinnon says the main outstanding issues are contracting out, job security and wages.
MacKinnon says a strike is likely if a deal can’t be reached at these conciliation talks.
Members of the local include library workers as well as IT support, student services, finances and various administration assistants.
