CB Unemployment Rate Hit 16.7%, Last Month

The latest numbers from Stats Canada show Cape Breton’s unemployment rate stood at 16.7 per cent, last month.

That’s a jump of half a percentage point from December and 2.4 percentage points higher compared to January of last year.

Meanwhile, the national unemployment rate went up .2 percentage points last month to 5.6 per cent.

The federal agency says the increase was fueled by more people looking for work.
