Fire prevention officer Steven MacKenzie says police and fire services are starting a campaign Monday warning drivers to stay away from fire lanes.
He says first responders have no time to spare arriving at an emergency to maneuver around illegally parked vehicles.
Local businesses will be provided with flyers to had out to their customers for the first few weeks of December, warning them of the dangers of parking in fire lanes.
The fine for a first offence is more than 130 dollars.
