Passenger Fares On Marine Atlantic Ferries Going Down 50%

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced this morning fares on Marine Atlantic ferries from North Sydney to Newfoundland are going down by 50% for passengers and passenger vehicles on both routes.

Carney says commercial freight rates on the ferries will be frozen at the current rate.

The changes come into effect this coming Friday, August 1st.

Carney also announced during a visit to PEI this morning tolls on the Confederation Bridge are going down from just over $50 to $20 starting on Friday.

Fares on the ferries to PEI are going down by 50 percent on that date.

Carney promised during the federal election to make transportation more affordable across Atlantic Canada in the face of a trade war with the U.S.
