Riverview High Teacher Wins Stompin’ Tom Award

A teacher at Riverview High in Coxheath is this year’s winner of the ECMA Stompin’ Tom Award for Cape Breton.

The East Coast Music Awards say Monica MacNeil is an award-winning music educator whose innovative, inclusive programming has transformed music education in Cape Breton.

It says MacNeil’s courses like Rock Class and Traditional Celtic Class, make music accessible to all students.

The Stompin’ Tom Awards recognize one person in each of ECMA’s five geographical regions who’s made a long-term contribution to the East Coast music industry.

Meanwhile, Newfoundland and Labrador’s Ennis Sisters are winners of this year’s Dr. Helen Creighton Lifetime Achievement Award that recognizes an individual or group that’s had a profound and lasting effect on the Atlantic Canadian music industry.
