Police Say Investigation Continues Into Report of Shots Fired In Sydney Mines

Regional Police say they’re continuing to investigate a report of shots being fired in the Cottage Street area in Sydney Mines on March 22nd.

The statement comes after a shooting damaged a house in the same area 12 days earlier and Regional Councillor Gordon MacDonald and other people in the community have criticized police for not saying anything publicly about the second case.

Police say they’ve reviewed video footage, including one video showing flashes of light believed to be gun shots coming from a vehicle, but they say there are no identifying details in any of the video and no property damage was found on Cottage Street.

They add there is a report of damage to a home on another street but investigators can’t connect it to a second shooting.

Police say there’s no more evidence to confirm shots being fired at any particular location and they’re treating the case as an isolated incident.

Anyone with information on either of the two cases is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
