Council Pledges to Fight Hospital Closures

Regional Council approved a motion to speak out against the closures of the hospitals in New Waterford and North Sydney at last night’s council meeting.

The province plans to tear down the hospitals and replace them with community health centres.

Council plans to write to Premier Stephen McNeil, Cape Breton cabinet ministers Geoff MacLellan and Derek Mombourquette and Health Minister Randy Delorey to express its dissatisfaction with the move.

The resolution also calls on Mayor Cecil Clarke and members of Council to actively speak out against the closures.
