278 Doctors Recruited To NS In The Last Year

The Health Authority says the province welcomed 278 new doctors in the last fiscal year and that’s a 10 per cent bump over the year before.

Nova Scotia Health says when the number of doctors who left the province or retired is factored in, the province saw a net gain of 199 new doctors in the past year.

It says that’s a dozen more new starts than the previous year.

Of the 278 new doctors, 111 are family doctors and 167 are specialists, including 12 who started work at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax.

40 per cent of the doctors recruited are internationally trained with the Health Authority saying Dalhousie Medical School continues to be a key focus of recruitment.
