Welcome To Cape Breton Sign

Port Hawkesbury mayor Brenda Chisholm-Beaton hopes the Mi’kmaq name for Cape Breton will be added to the iconic Welcome to Cape Breton sign at the Canso Causeway by the spring.

Chisholm-Beaton says adding Unama’ki to the sign would help with truth and reconciliation in Cape Breton.

She says representatives from the five municipalities and five First Nations communities on the island met in November.

Chisholm-Beaton adds she has sent a letter to Premier Stephen McNeil, who is also the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs.
