Weekend House Fires In New Waterford and Sydney Mines

The Red Cross says at least six people have been forced from their homes after fires in Cape Breton on the weekend.

A man and woman’s New Waterford home has been damaged after a kitchen fire, early yesterday morning.

The blaze in the rented bungalow on St. Joseph Street was reported at around 3:00.

And, at least four people have been forced from their home after a fire damaged a duplex in on MacInnis Street in Sydney Mines, early Saturday morning.

Red Cross volunteers have arranged emergency lodging and meals for a woman and her three children, who range in age from two to eight.

The organization says it hasn’t been contacted about the people living in the other half of the duplex.
