Weather Causing Travel Delays

Nasty weather in the Cabot Strait continues to affect the Marine Atlantic Ferry schedule.

The Crown Corporation says that last night’s crossing from North Sydney is now due to leave at 12:30 this afternoon, after both of yesterday’s sailings were postponed.

Meanwhile a Gale Warning and Freezing Spray Warning remain in effect for the Cabot Strait.

The Freezing Spray Warning is due to end this afternoon with seas of 3 to 4 metres due to go down to 2 to 3 near noon, today.

Meanwhile, Maritime Bus is warning travelers to prepare for possible delays or cancellations, today.

Snowfall or winter storm warnings are in effect for most of the province today and Environment Canada says some areas could see as much as 25 cm of snow.

However, it adds Cape Breton will be spared from the heavy snowfalls.

The weather agency says snow will begin moving over the western portion of the province this morning and spread eastward throughout the day.
