Water Rate Hearing Underway, Today

A Utility and Review Board hearing is underway today into changes to water rates in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.

The Water Utility is looking for a 3.6 percent increase in the average residential quarterly water bill for 2023-24.

However, there’s a decrease of 1.9 percent in 2024-25 and a .7 percent increase in 2025-26.

The changes would bring the average quarterly bill from the current $123.81 cents to $126.77 cents in 2025-26.

The hearing is taking place in Regional Council Chambers.
