Wage Subsidy Extended

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced an extension to the federal government’s emergency wage subsidy.

The $73 billion program was first due to run until June 6th but it’s being extended to the end of August.

Under the program, the federal government covers 75 per cent of an eligible company’s payroll — up to a maximum of $847 a week for each worker.

Trudeau also announced $450 million today for universities and research agencies affected by COVID-19.

The money will come from federal granting agencies.
