Vigil in Sydney Tonight for Quebec Shooting Victims

A candlelight vigil to honour victims of the Quebec City mosque shooting will take place this evening at the Civic Centre in Sydney.

It gets underway at 6:00.

Meanwhile, the 27-year-old man accused of carrying out the attack has been charged with six counts of first-degree murder and five counts of attempted murder while using a restricted firearm.

Alexandre Bissonnette made a brief court appearance last night and is due back in court on February 21st.

Police say they’re treating Sunday’s attack as a terrorist act and add Bissonnette could also face terrorism-related charges.

Six men were killed in the shooting and five people remain in hospital with injuries.

13 others suffered minor injuries and have been released from hospital.
