The provincial Health Authority says mental health team leaders will be in Sydney later this morning to provide an overview of child and adolescent mental health services in Cape Breton.
The move comes after the psychiatry site lead recommended psychiatric patients under 19 be sent to the IWK hospital in Halifax instead of being treated in Cape Breton.
Dr. Scott Milligan also says they don’t have the resources for the proper treatment of young people because the psychiatry department only has one child and adolescent psychiatrist.
Earlier this month, the Health Authority said Milligan’s recommendation had not been accepted, but also said discussion was underway.
This morning’s news conference is due to get underway at 9:30 at the Regional Hospital.
