Union Pans Municipality Amid Stalled Contract Talks

The union representing municipal workers is accusing the Regional Municipality of playing games while contract talks have stalled.

The President of CUPE Local 759, Kevin Ivey, says they’ve heard from some members the municipality is trying to spread false information about contract talks and divide the union’s membership.

The municipality has yet to respond publicly to the accusation.

The statement comes after a conciliator was appointed by the provincial Labour Department in September to help settle the dispute.

According to the union, the sticking points in the dispute include differences over pay and parental leave.

The local represents about 300 workers who’ve been without a contract since October 31st of last year.
