Cape Breton is seeing its first action in the Under 18 Women’s World Hockey Championship today when Switzerland plays Sweden in a pre-tournament game at the Kehoe Forum at Cape Breton University.
Other pre-tournament games are being played this week in North York, Ontario and Halifax and Dartmouth.
The Island is hosting the tournament at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre and Centre 200 in Sydney from Saturday through January 18th.
Along with the host Canada, teams in the tournament include Czechia, Finland, Hungary, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.
Canada plays Switzerland to open the tournament at 8:30 on Saturday night.
Meanwhile, today’s pre-tournament game between Switzerland and Sweden at the Kehoe Forum starts at 5:00 this evening and is sold out.
