Two Witnesses Say Barrett Confessed To Killing A Woman

Two witnesses at yesterday’s murder trial of Thomas Ted Barrett said he confessed to them that he killed a woman.

The Glace Bay man is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 21 year-old Brett Elizabeth MacKinnon who was last seen alive in 2006.

Barrett’s former girlfriend Krysta Newell testified that Barrett told her that he got a bruise on his shoulder from dragging the body of a girl he had killed around the house.

However, he did not identify the girl.

Another witness, Chris Andrews, told the court that Barrett told him he beat and strangled MacKinnon after he caught her taking drugs.

The Court also heard from two Cape Breton Regional Police officers on the credibility of another witness who said in a video-taped statement that Barrett also confessed to her that he killed MacKinnon.

Sheryl Flynn has since died from a drug overdose but Constable Robert Davies says Flynn seemed fine and of clear mind when she gave the statement.

The trial will resume next week.
