Two Sydney Groups Get Funds For Seniors Programs

Some provincial funding is being given to two Sydney groups who work with seniors.

Sydney-Whitney Pier MLA Derek Mombourquette announced investments today in Breton Ability Centre and the Health Association of African Canadians in Cape Breton.

The Breton Ability Centre received a grant of 8,000 dollars to offer horticultural and exercise therapy sessions to their residents.

The money will also be used to expand the organization’s community garden and greenhouse project.

The Health Association of African Canadians received a grant of 3,250 dollars to launch a two-day senior health symposium.

The province says the symposium will provide health information to seniors and encourage an open dialogue about the health of African Canadians.

Both grants are being given through the province’s Age-Friendly Grant program.
