Two Arrested, Tobacco Seized After Stop On 105 Trans Canada

RCMP say they made an important seizure of unstamped tobacco after a traffic stop on the 105 Trans Canada Highway in Millville, last Friday.

The Mounties say an officer pulled over a white Ford van for speeding shortly before 4:00 in the afternoon.

They say during the stop, the officer learned the driver who was a 45-year-old Halifax man, had a revoked license.

Police say a second RCMP officer spotted illegal cigarettes in plain view inside the vehicle.

The driver and a 32-year-old Dartmouth woman who was the passenger were safely arrested.

Police say a search of the vehicle led to the seizure of 64 cases of unstamped tobacco, worth about $160,000.

The man and woman face multiple charges under the Revenue Act, Excise Act, Criminal Code and Motor Vehicle Act and have been released on conditions.
