Trudeau Announces Housing Agreements With Municipality, Membertou

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was in Membertou today to announce agreements on housing with Membertou and the Regional Municipality.

The agreement fast-tracks 367 new housing units over the next three years—something the federal government says will help spur the construction of more homes over the next decade.

The government says 13.3 million dollars are being provided under the Housing Accelerator Fund to eliminate barriers to building houses in the area.

The Regional Municipality’s agreement includes allowing six units as-of-right in serviceable areas and using pre-approved building plans to fast-track construction.

The Membertou agreement includes funding for housing and infrastructure upgrades and for recruiting housing administration staff and construction managers.
