Trial Date Set in Jessome Murder Case

A trial date has been set for two Glace Bay men charged with second degree murder in the death of Laura Jessome from Bras d’Or.

40 year-old Thomas Ted Barrett and 24 year-old Morgan James MacNeil are due to stand trial beginning on Sept. 12th of next year.

The trial is scheduled to run three weeks.

Jessome’s body was found in a hockey bag along the shores of the Mira River in May of 2012.

The trial will be Barrett’s second on a murder charge in 2016.

He’s also scheduled to stand trial beginning on Jan. 18th on a charge of second- degree murder in connection with the death of Brett Elizabeth McKinnon from Glace Bay.

She was reported missing in 2006 and her skeletal remains were found in the Passchendaele area of Glace Bay in 2008.

Both Barrett and Morgan are currently serving time for unrelated offences.
