Tree Cutting Ceremony In Orangedale For Province’s Tree To Boston

There’s going to be a tree cutting ceremony in Orangedale this morning for the province’s Christmas tree to Boston.

The 15 metre white spruce is coming from the L’Arche Cape Breton property.

Natural Resources Minister Tory Rushton and Inverness MLA Allan MacMaster will be on hand for the ceremony that’s scheduled to start at 10:30.

Andrea Currie from Waycobah First Nation will perform a smudging ceremony before the tree is cut, and the We’koqma Drummers will perform the Honour Song.

The Tree for Boston is the province’s annual thank you to the city for sending medical personnel and supplies to Nova Scotia within hours of the Halifax Explosion in 1917.
