The lawyer for a Glace Bay man charged in the murder of Laura Jessome from Bras d’Or is due in court today to ask for a publication ban.
41 year-old Thomas Ted Barrett faces a count of second degree murder in the case.
His lawyer Zeb Brown is looking for a court order that no information regarding pre-trial applications be published, broadcast, or transmitted in any way until the jury in the case retires to consider its verdict, or returns a verdict.
The pre-trial applications include a hearing on whether there’s been an undue delay in getting the case to trial as well as an application for a change of venue.
Another application deals with the admissibility of certain witness statements at the trial.
Barrett’s judge and jury trial in the case is due to begin later this year.
He’s already serving a life sentence after being convicted last year of second-degree murder in the death of 19-year-old Brett Elizabeth McKinnon from Glace Bay.
