The Province Is Going To Fund The Abortion Pill

The McNeil government says it plans to make the abortion pill available at no cost, starting November 1st.

Women with a prescription and valid health card will be able to get the drug for free at pharmacies across the province.

The province says the move will cost between $175,000 and $200,000 a year.

The province also says women will no longer need a doctor’s referral to get an abortion at the QE II hospital in Halifax.

Women will be able to refer themselves directly where they’ll be seen by a doctor to begin the process.

The province says a dedicated phone line will be set up to allow woman to make appointments and extra staff will be hired.

The changes come after the government was criticized for problems with access to abortion services, earlier this year.
