Tentative Deal With Province’s Teachers

The province has reached a tentative contract with the Nova Scotia Teachers Union.

Neither the union nor the Liberal government are releasing details about the agreement until the deal is ratified.

A ratification vote is scheduled for Dec. 1.

The last agreement with teachers expired on July 31.

If the agreement is formalized, it will be a major victory for the McNeil government as it tries to sign new contracts with just about every union in the province.

The offer to every union so far has been a five-year contract with no wage increases in the first three years and one per cent increases in each of the last two years.
