Teachers Will Hold One-Day Strike on Friday

The Teachers Union plans to hold a one-day, province-wide strike on Friday.

The move comes after the McNeil government recalled the Legislature last night to impose a contract on teachers.

Union president Liette Doucet says the NSTU has never faced a more anti-education premier than Stephen McNeil in its entire 122 year history.

She adds Bill 75 limits teachers’ right to strike, erodes their ability to negotiate a fair contract and prevents them from advocating for reforms to improve learning conditions.

Friday’s walkout will mark the first ever province-wide strike by teachers.

Teachers have been working to rule except for one week since December 5th.
