Teachers Voting On Tentative Contract, Today

10-thousand members of the Nova Scotia Teachers Union are voting on a new tentative agreement, today.

The deal offers a wage increase of 8.5 percent over three years.

There’s also a 2.5 per cent increase to all levels of the pay grid before the salary adjustment in the first year of the contract.

Rates for substitute teachers will increase to 75 per cent of the entry level rate for full-time teachers, effective August 1, 2023.

The proposed deal also increases preparation time for teachers, increases professional development funds for centres for education, and requires the employer to set up a committee to investigate teacher retention and recruitment.

The union held information sessions on the tentative deal ahead of today’s vote.
