Sydney VA Office Occupation to Continue

Local veterans say they plan to continue their sit-in at the Sydney Veterans Affairs Office today and all this week to protest its pending closure on Friday.

Scott Beckman, Vince Rigby, and Alfie Burt began their occupation of the lobby of the George Street office, yesterday.

59 year-old Burt from Glace Bay served in Germany, Cyprus and Alert and retired from the military in 2000 after a 25 year career.

He says they hope the quiet protest might help get the attention of the Conservative government in Ottawa.

Meanwhile, North Sydney veteran Ron Clarke is part of a group of veterans from across the country that are in Ottawa today to lobby the government against the planned closures of several veterans affairs offices, including the one in Sydney.
