Sydney Saputo Plant Closing, Today

The Saputo plant in Sydney is due to close today putting about 100 employees out of work.

Cheese-maker Saputo announced the closure in March.

At the time, the company said it’s moving production from the Sydney operation to other plants because the Cape Breton facility wasn’t making enough money.

The company is also shutting down its plant in Princeville, Quebec in August and its Ottawa Dairy in December.

The Sydney plant produced milk, coffee cream, sour cream, ice-cream mix and plastic milk jugs.
