Sydney Mines Fire Leaves Three Homeless

Three people are out of their home after a fire damaged a two-storey apartment complex on Huron Avenue in Sydney Mines yesterday.

Paul MacCormick from the Sydney Mines Fire Department told The Coast the fire began at around 11:00 yesterday morning and sustained “severe damage to an area of the second and third floor.”

MacCormick also said the fire department was at the scene for between two and three hours.

The Red Cross says volunteers arranged emergency housing and food and clothing for the three people.

They lived in two of the four apartments. The other complexes were vacant at the time of the blaze.

MacCormick says the provincial Fire Marshall is at the scene trying to determine the cause of the fire.
