Sydney Man Pleads in Fatal Hit-And-Run

 

A Sydney man has pleaded guilty to three charges in relation to a fatal hit-and-run on the Sydney Bypass.

27-year-old Thomas Joseph Smith pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice, driving while disqualified and leaving the scene.

He was also charged with dangerous driving causing death and criminal negligence causing death.

54-year-old Jackie Deveau from Cheticamp died in March after being hit by a car while trying to flag down vehicles near the Mira Road exit.

Deveau was a patient at the Regional Hospital and his family says the military veteran suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Smith will be sentenced on March 29.
