Suggestions for Canada Games Complex

There were a number of suggestions on future uses for the Canada Games Complex in the first of a series of open houses, last night.

With Membertou set to open a dual ice surface, Cape Breton University plans to decommission the rink after next season.

However, some among the 20 people at last night’s meeting at the Complex felt that the ice surface should be kept.

Another suggestion was turning it into an all-ages indoor facility with a playground, rock climbing wall, and track.

Cromarty Tennis Club board member Bill Buckland says his club is interested in an indoor tennis court for the winter season.

The Town Halls will continue at the Baddeck Community Hall on Wednesday and the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre on Thursday.

Dates have also been set for meetings at the Cheticamp Legion on July 22nd and the Inverness Fire Hall on July 23rd.

All of the Town Halls will run from 6-8 p.m.

Other meetings will also take place at yet-to-be-announced dates in Glace Bay, New Waterford, Eskasoni and North Sydney.
