Standoff Accused Released On Bail

A 62-year-old Gardiner Mines man was released on $500 bail today as he faces weapons charges after a standoff with police.

Michel Robert Gallagher faces counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm and careless storage of weapons and ammunition.

Regional Police say they were called to Seaside Drive at around 1:30 on Tuesday afternoon when they say they were told Gallagher made threats with a weapon from inside his home.

Police set up roadblocks in the area and Gallagher was arrested at around 4:30.

Police say guns and ammunition were seized from the home.

Gallagher’s release comes with a host of conditions including a curfew.

He’s due back in court for a plea hearing on September 25th.
